- Your roof is 15+ years old (most North Alabama asphalt fails between years 18-22).

- Bald spots where granules have washed away — usually shows as darker patches.
- Cracked, broken, or missing shingles, especially on south-facing slopes.
- Rusted, lifted, or missing flashing around the chimney, skylights, or vent pipes.
- Sagging ridge or valley lines visible from the ground.
- Daylight visible through the attic decking when the lights are off.

How to score yourself
0–1 signs: Roof is healthy. Schedule a routine inspection. · 2–3 signs: Likely needs targeted repair plus a maintenance plan. · 4+ signs: Full replacement is usually the cheaper option once labor is amortized.
